Group Interview Skills Workshop Overview

Passing the entrance exams is the first step. Your child will also be interviewed by their prospective schools. We provide independent advice and practice to cope with these interviews.

Interview Skills is not about telling your child exactly what to say. This defeats the purpose of an interview. Our sessions will help your child to act naturally and feel comfortable in an interview situation. This increases confidence and promotes good presentational skills when meeting new people in unfamiliar situations.

We also focus on good manners, how to shake hands, posture, how to sit and most importantly tips on how to remain calm and make sure your child remains confident throughout the session.

Your child will be interviewed by a specialist and will be expected to answer questions on a range of subjects based on current school interview methods. Your child will develop strategies to cope with and answer surprise questions, maximising his or her chances of being selected by your school(s) of choice.

We offer tips for improvement and provide you with feedback and suggestions on how to practise your interview technique at home.

Questions that often come up at interviews are: Which three words would you use to describe yourself? What is the biggest challenge the world is facing today? What have you read in the news recently? What do you like doing in your spare time? What is your greatest Strength? What are your weaknesses? What subjects do you like best? If you had money to spare which charity would you help and why? If you were Head teacher for the day, what would you change in your school?

We cover philosophical questions as well as looking at art, various conundrums to solve, mental maths problems, reading comprehension and poetry.

Group sessions can help children to overcome nerves and shyness while learning with others. The group interviews are run by qualified and experienced teachers. Each session is interactive, children are given activities and tasks to complete in a group or individual interview situation.

We look at a variety of skills throughout the sessions such as leadership skills, listening skills, collaboration, team work, general knowledge and behaviour. This is a positive experience where children also learn from each other and gain top tips to help them. Written feedback is given on the last day.

11+ Group sessions: Tasks range from looking at pictures, discussing complex questions, working out Maths and science problems and completing activities. Group discussions help children to gain confidence in their own thoughts and opinions on a variety of topics. They also give the children many ideas to use for the real interviews, promoting confidence.

7+ and 8+ Group sessions: Tasks range from making and building activities. Working together in a group and taking turns. Completing word puzzles, block puzzles, reading out loud and answering mental maths questions. Spelling words and writing tasks. Listening skills and co-operation. For example children are taught to play a card game and then asked to explain the game to a partner.

Maximum of 6-7 children per group.

Please watch our Facebook page for top tips and interview questions.

"My daughter did really well in her 11+ exams. She was offered all the schools she sat – Surbiton High School, Putney High School, Wimbledon High School, Godolphin and LEH. We have accepted a sports scholarship at Putney and she is over the moon! Many thanks for the role you played in helping her achieve her potential."
