How it works

Children should be registered through the website by booking and paying for the session.

On the day, children will sign in and are then taken to the exam room. We tend to have anywhere from 20 – 60 children sitting these mock exams. The environment in which they sit the papers will closely mimic the real thing, be this a hall or large classroom.

Once the mock exam is complete, we mark the papers giving extensive written feedback throughout. Papers are then returned to parents via post within a week of sitting the paper. You will also receive an anonymous cohort results table which will enable you to identify where your child stands in comparison with others who sat the mock.

Important information

Our 10+ mock exam is geared towards children sitting 10+ exams, but also for Year 5 children who will be preparing for 11+ in the following year.

Our mock exams do not replicate the format of any one particular school, but are divided into sections that help you assess and identify which areas are on track and where support is needed.

Our marking system means that our mocks are a good snapshot of ability for independent schools, regardless of the level of the schools they are attempting. The idea is, following the feedback from the mock, that you work on only the areas that need it! A targeted approach becomes much less stressful for both parent and child.

Description

Just like a real school exam, our Snapshot Mocks are held in an exam environment under exam conditions. Children will sit papers in English and Maths with a short break in the middle. These mock exams are carefully set at the correct level for the time in the academic year and are a great way to boost confidence and assess any areas for development.

This mock exam only runs in December. It is geared towards children sitting 10+ exams, but also for Year 5 children who will be preparing for 11+ the following year. This is a great way for parents and children to get ahead with 11+ preparation and understand where children are excelling and where focus is needed for the upcoming year.

Guided by a supportive adult in the room with them, your child will be reassured as they are talked through all stages and expectations of being in an exam. We actively encourage children attending to ask questions to ensure they are fully prepared and confident to do well on the day. At Yellowbird we always try to make the exam experience as stress-free as possible while offering a genuine flavour of the real thing. Sitting a mock reduces exam-day nerves and will help your child to understand what will be expected of them on the day in unfamiliar surroundings.

Upon completion of the exam, papers are marked and returned to parents via post. You will receive all marked papers along with feedback and a cohort results table to show how well your child performed in comparison to others who sat the exam.
