How it works

Before purchasing, please email handwriting@yellowbirdeducation.co.uk for information on availability.

Once your date and time has been agreed, book and pay via the website.

Your child will receive their handwriting worksheets on the first day.

These classes allow children to work through the material at their own pace.

On the first day, the teacher will assess each child’s current writing skills. This will allow the teacher to observe their pencil grip, writing habits, and letter formation.

Each child will have a unique starting point in their handwriting journey. Over the course, students will learn essential skills such as; proper pencil or pen grip, correct letter formation and placement on the line, techniques for joining letters neatly and consistently, as-well as the importance of presentation.

Once pupils reach the final stage, they will also work on story writing strategies to reinforce their writing skills, focusing on speed, spelling, presentation, and applying their handwriting improvements to broader writing tasks.

Parents are encouraged to reinforce exercises at home in order to achieve maximum potential as quickly as possible.

For example, if your child currently uses ‘lead-ins,’ our teacher will adjust the approach to build on what they already know, focusing on techniques to improve their handwriting without undoing their existing skills. This personalised method ensures that every child can achieve neater, more confident handwriting while strengthening their current abilities.

Our handwriting workshop is proven to be effective; otherwise, we wouldn’t run it. However, it’s important to note that this is not a ‘quick fix’ solution. Each child’s starting point reflects their previous learning habits, which have been formed over time. Depending on where they begin, they will progress through the materials at their own pace and may require additional lessons to reinforce their new skills. As with everything, consistent practice after the workshop is essential for lasting improvement.
