How it works

Select the date of the workshop. Children are registered through the website by booking and paying for the workshop.

The children will receive their own set of MagicLink books on the first day. If you already have the books, please bring these to the workshop.

On the first day, the teacher will assess each child’s current writing skills by having them complete a ‘before piece.’ This will allow the teacher to observe their pencil grip, everyday writing habits, and letter formation.

Each child attending the workshop will have a unique starting point in their handwriting journey. Over the course of the week, students will learn essential skills such as proper pencil/pen grip, mastering the formation of our three categories of letters and their placement on the line, the technique of joining letters neatly and correctly, as well as the importance of presentation.

Story writing strategies are given once the pupil has reached step 30, which is the final step. This will reinforce writing skills and focus on speed, spelling, presentation and the transfer of writing skills into other situations.

At the end of the week, after working through the course, the children will create an ‘after piece’ where you’ll be able to see the remarkable progress your child has made in just 5 days. Parents are encouraged to speak to the teacher throughout the week to see how their child is getting on.

Description

Yellowbird Education has joined up with Magic Link to bring this fantastic handwriting course to Fulham. The Magic Link programme changes writing from messy and illegible to neat and flowing in 30 simple steps. This intensive workshop is designed to refine children’s handwriting abilities and allows them to progress with their writing over the 5 days. It teaches neat, cursive handwriting in a simple and logical way, using a step-by-step approach. The programme is highly-structured, fun and motivating.

The course is tailored to each child’s needs. For example, if your child currently uses ‘lead-ins,’ our teacher will adjust the approach to build on what they already know, focusing on techniques to improve their handwriting without undoing their existing skills. This personalised method ensures that every child can achieve neater, more confident handwriting without eliminating their current abilities.

Our handwriting workshop is proven to be effective; otherwise, we wouldn’t run it. However, it’s important to note that this is not a ‘quick fix’ solution. Each child’s starting point reflects their previous learning habits, which have been ingrained over time. Depending on where they begin, they will progress through the materials at their own pace and may require additional lessons to reinforce their new skills. It is important to note, like with everything, lots of practice is needed after the workshop.
