More Than Results: Nurturing Happy, Resilient Children

”Happy children learn best!โ€

Yellowbird X Little Tweaks

โ€œHappy children learn bestโ€ may be an overused clichรฉ, but it remains a fundamental truth. At the heart of every successful lifelong learner is not just academic ability, but the mental strength to navigate both academic and social challenges. In todayโ€™s world, this resilience is more important than ever.

Research consistently shows that higher levels of wellbeing are linked to stronger academic performance across all ages while also fostering greater motivation and growth mindset.

As parents and educators, it is our responsibility to ensure that children feel safe, supported and confident as they approach the classroom, exams and any learning environment. We must encourage them to embrace challenge, to develop the resilience to recover from setbacks and to take pride in who they are with the knowledge that they are always good enough.

The 7+ and 11+ exam process can be an intense and demanding experience for many children. When school choices are not well aligned and no offers are received, the impact on a childโ€™s self-esteem can be significant. Faced with difficult exams, children need the mental strategies to persevere and the confidence to draw on their inner belief.

Within interviews, they must be able to express their strengths with both assurance and humility. All of this takes place against the complex backdrop of growing up in 2026, where young people are continually exposed to the pressures of social media, negative influences and an increasingly uncertain world

At Yellowbird, we are committed to nurturing confidence and cultivating genuine self-belief in every pupil. Whether a child joins us for a Creative Writing Workshop and discovers their inner spark or develops the skills to approach future school exams through our Sunday Exam Prep sessions, our aim is always the same: to bring joy to learning and open doors to opportunities they may not have realised were within reach.

Sometimes, all it takes is the right environment, and a shift in mindset, for a child to truly thrive.

Itโ€™s for this reason that we have partnered up with Little Tweaks run by psychologist Laura Reilly, an Assistant Headteacher, Parent Coach and Mindfulness Teacher. Laura is a research-informed wellbeing practitioner with over 15 yearsโ€™ experience supporting children and families, as seen at Fearne Cottonโ€™s Happy Place and the Joe Wicks Wellbeing Festival.

Through her unique Little Tweaks, Laura โ€œteaches children how to look after their mental wellbeing through meditation, mindfulness practice, breath work and storytelling.โ€ We will be hosting Lauraโ€™s afternoon workshops with an armoury of confidence building strategies creating children who leave with a stronger sense of self than when they arrived, preparing them for the inevitable challenges that lay ahead on their academic journey.

Becoming the perfect complement to a morning of Maths, English or Reasoning, these workshops will ensure that children leave our workshops as a happy child that we know learns best, filled with motivation, a growth mindset and the key skills required to reach their goals.
