Children who will be sitting their 11+ exams this year
Children should be registered through the website by booking and paying for the session.
On the day children will sign in and are then sent to the exam room/hall. We tend to have around 40 to 100 children sitting these mock exams and the environment in which they sit the papers, will closely mimic the real thing.
Children will sit papers in Maths and English with a short break in between.
Once the mock exam is complete, we mark the papers giving extensive written feedback throughout. Papers are then returned to parents via post within a week of sitting the paper. You will also receive an anonymous cohort results table which will enable you to identify where your child stands in comparison with others who sat the mock.
Our mock exams do not replicate the format of any one particular school, but are divided into sections that help you assess and identify which areas are on track and where support is needed. We try to accommodate a range of exams that will be given at London independent schools, UK boarding schools and online exams, but the primary focus of these mocks is to experience what it is like to work under exam conditions and to highlight areas that need work.
Our marking system means that our mocks are a good snapshot of ability for independent schools, regardless of the level of the schools they are attempting. The idea is, following the feedback from the mock, that you work on only the areas that need it! A targeted approach becomes much less stressful for both parent and child.
Please see the breakdown below of the various 11+ exam formats throughout the year.
May/June: These exams will be similar to the November model and cover all key areas of the curriculum in both maths and English, offering a variety of both written and multiple choice questions.
September: With the ISEB Pre-Test and London Consortium Test looming on the horizon, we make sure that this paper has a nod to the question styles found in these online exams. While our papers are completed by hand, the skills that are practised are directly transferable to an online setting, such as solving multiple choice questions in both maths and English, scanning a text for key information and finding evidence in the passage. There are also VR and Grammar sections to our English paper which will be found in the online assessments. Away from the online aspects, there is a short creative writing task as part of the English paper.
November: This exam follows a more traditional approach with a combination of written and multiple choice answers in both Maths and English. The English paper will contain a creative writing task to accommodate the schools that will cover this as well as some Grammar and VR questions. Maths will be a written paper with four sections – the fourth being a particularly challenging part which looks at areas beyond the primary curriculum.
You don’t need to do them all! Often parents use our mocks to re-energise and re-focus before or after the holidays. So for example, one in June and one in September/November.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Once committed to a course/workshop/exam (by completion of an online booking), a contract exists between you and Yellowbird Education. You agree to the following terms:
Just like a real school exam, our Snapshot Mocks are held in an exam environment under exam conditions. Children will sit papers in English and Maths with a short break in the middle. These mock exams are carefully set at the correct level for the time in the academic year and are a great way to boost confidence and assess any areas for development.
